The Department of Contemporary Art coordinates some of the most important auctions at DESA Unicum. Every year we organise more than 10 auctions thematically divided into 5 categories: Classics of the Avant-Garde after 1945, Op-art, Geometric Abstraction, Art of Matter or Conceptualism, all extremely appreciated by collectors.

Particularly high sums are obtained from outstanding works of the most important Polish avant-garde artists of the second half of the 20th century, such as Wojciech Fangor, Andrzej Wróblewski, Jerzy Nowosielski, Tadeusz Kantor, Kazimierz Mikulski, Teresa Pągowska, Zdzisław Beksiński, Erna Rosenstein and Henryk Stażewski.

On November 29th 2018, a Contemporary Art auction achieved the highest turnover in the history of the Polish art market – more than 20 million zlotys.

For various reasons, experts predict further growth on the contemporary art market in Poland. Polish 20th century art continues to be rather undervalued in relation to other European and global markets, however the number of domestic collectors steadily increases by around 20 percent each year and there is a growing attraction to Polish artists among western collectors.
