New young creators at the "Young Art" auctions
The works by young artists presented at the "Young Art" auctions at DESA UNICUM are enjoying increasing recognition. DESA UNICUM was the first auction house in Poland to organize auctions of Young Art. Since 2008, we have had the pleasure to cooperate with many young artists and support them in making their debut on the art market, as well as follow their developing careers.
From year to year, Young Art has attracted more and more attention from collectors. The growing interest resulted in reaching a record turnover of almost PLN 20 million in six years. Last year, the average price of a sold item increased by 30% compared to 2020. We are glad to see both the rise of numerous new talents and the growing interest in art among our recipients. More and more people want to collect and surround themselves with art.
As a result, in 2021, the Young Art auctions witnessed the most spectacular sales growth on the Polish market. Since January, DESA Unicum has included 1,000 works by young artists in its offer, with a total value of over PLN 4 million. As many as 96% of them were purchased. The average price of a work amounted to almost PLN 4,000, which is an increase of 70% compared to the price level from six years ago. Young Art is also the first project of DESA Unicum which introduced the formula of online pre-bidding in addition to on-site auctions. The opportunity of online bidding prior to the auction thus facilitated taking part in auctions and producing better results.
In 2021, works by many new artists appeared at our auctions. New young creators make their debut at almost every auction. This year we started cooperation with such artists as Piotr Wolski, Nicole Szmidt, Anna Maria Jankiewicz, Anna Krycia. The greatest successes were achieved by Kacper Załogowski, who creates paintings against monochromatic backgrounds and a disturbing thicket of bodies, Beniamin Cierniak, famous for his abstract compositions vibrating with colors, or Piotr Rutkowski, the author of charming seaside landscapes. In addition, we collaborated with already well-known artists.
We presented works by such artists as Bartłomiej Koter, Dariusz Grabuś, Grzegorz Klimek, Katarzyna Chmiel, Adelajda Kot, Rafał Kapica, Kat Garstka, Romuald Musiolik, Agnieszka Zabrodzka. Our offer includes numerous themes and creative styles, for instance figuration, portraits, landscapes, and abstraction.
