In 2026, we mark the 350th anniversary of the ceremonial coronation of Jan III Sobieski, one of the most important rulers of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the victor of Vienna. Elected king in May 1674 amid widespread enthusiasm, he postponed the coronation ceremony for a long time due to military duties and the political situation of the state. It was only on 2 February 1676, following a magnificent entry into Kraków, that Sobieski and Marie Casimire were crowned in Wawel Cathedral. This anniversary auction evokes the figure of the monarch and the world of the 17th-century Commonwealth: an age of great politics, victorious campaigns, court ceremony, and memory preserved in art.
