The Power of Polish Design

Design auctions are a project that requires us to constantly keep an eye out for the newest publications and exhibitions devoted to design, as well as conduct our own in-depth research in the field. Just as is the case with the Polish art market and Polish art history - industrial design is an area that has only begun to occupy its rightful place in recent years. For that very reason, the design exhibitions at DESA Unicum are accompanied by numerous events such as guided tours, lectures, or meetings with experts all of which aim to broaden the knowledge of ‘object-art'. 

Record sales results are usually noted on the auction market. For us, the sale of an armchair designed by Roman Modzelewski for almost 100,000 PLN constituted not only another record but a clear indication that design can be an art market field equal to painting or sculpture. A unique piece of furniture may achieve a result like that of a painting by a good avant-garde artist. 

Therefore, DESA Unicum for the last couple of years has regularly organised and developed the design auction project. Each year, a couple hundred unique utility and decorative objects are offered at two in-person auctions and a few online auctions. Among them are pieces of furniture, lighting, ceramics, and fabrics. Moreover, last year we have distinguished glass objects from our offer, and from 2022 on, we will periodically organise artistic and utility glass auctions.  

We encourage you to submit objects to the design auctions and send photos of the items to identify and value them. An inconspicuous cup, a grandmother's vase or a chair which has been left for years in a cottage house, may turn out to be valuable examples of Polish design. Our job is to recognise their value.
