Staring at the stars
Samanta Belling
"Mars and Venus" is a work portraying a woman sitting on an armchair in a beautiful, red, draped dress while she gazes thoughtfully at the red planet Mars. The moon is a very common theme in the works of Mariusz Zdybał. It is a symbol of "timelessness" or moving to another dimension. Zdybała's paintings are a wonderful journey through time and space.
Venus is portrayed as a beautiful woman, the effect of derealization is applied to her blue skin color, which the artist uses very often in his oeuvre. The planet Mars lies on a green velour armchair. The whole composition is dominated by a large, blue moon, which transports the viewer to a different reality.
Showing various elements from outer space is a resut of the artist's great love for astrophysics, according to the artist he always dreamed of completing studies in the astrophysics. Even though the artist didn't go through with it, "star gazing" has remained his hobby to this day.
Mariusz Zdybał is in love with women, and he devotes the greatest part of his works to them. The women in his paintings are strong, charismatic goddesses. They swim in lakes, float in the sky, drift among fields, forests and meadows, visit the interior of empty palaces or look at each other in richly ornamented mirrors. As the artist once said:
"Women ... Always majestic, cast in bronze or in a heavenly tone, therefore in an unreal shell, which is a specific part of my works. Fascinating, mysterious like the cosmos, in which my protagonists often appear in an entourage. Mysterious melancholy in frozen characters and sensual arrangements are the canvas. endless story. ".
They became the main characters in Mariusz Zdybał's painting, but he also creates for them. One can find many symbolic meanings in the artist's paintings, because what is beautiful does not have to be obvious ...
