CELINA KANUNNIKAVA, ENGAGED ART
Weronika Daniluk
Celina Kannunikava is an artist who lives between Poznań, where she graduated from the Faculty of Painting and Drawing at the University of Arts, and Minsk. Her works, in the context of the current political situation in Belarus, are becoming more and more relevant. The artist refers to history and current politics, for which in 2016 she received the Award of the President of the City of Wrocław in the 12th edition of the National Geppert Competition for "credibility and vigilance towards history" (https://celinakanunnikava.com/pl/node/40, access: 20/01/2021). However, her works should be understood in a broader context - as a universal commentary on the situation in which contemporary man finds himself.
Painting "The Circulatory System" was presented in 2017 at the exhibition "Internal Diseases" at the Assembley Gallery in Poznań (Celina Kanunnikava | Internal Diseases | 3-14.03.2017 | assemblygallery.com, accessed: 20.01.2021). The works were kept in a monochromatic range of colors, which was only broken by red - the color of blood and conflict. The diseases in the title are problems that affect our civilization and limit the freedom of an individual. Taken literally as all political regimes, or figuratively, as information noise in the world of Western democracy.
"The circulatory system" was written as a commentary on the civil war in Ukraine. The picture brings to mind many associations. The labyrinth, the shield, the snowing screen of the TV, the red light on the signaling ... The viewer enters a hypnotized circle from which he cannot escape.
As part of the new series "New Art", we present works of artists who, despite their young age, already accomplish great achievements in the art world. Their works are becoming more and more popular among collectors. The premiere of the new project is under the patronage of the designer Łukasz Jemioł. We invite you to read the catalog on our website.
