Maurycy Gomulicki

About artist

(b. 1969)
Artist, designer, photographer, collector, and anthropologist of popular culture. A self-proclaimed hedonist and consistent advocate of the Culture of Pleasure. He graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, completing a diploma in printmaking with an additional focus in painting. He continued his studies at the Universitat de Barcelona, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan, and the Centro Multimedia at the Centro Nacional de las Artes in Mexico City.

In the 1990s, he authored the cult-favorite column Rzecz Kultowa in the Polish monthly Machina, later rebranded as Od rzeczy in Fluid magazine. He was a consultant and co-author of the project ABCDF - A Visual Dictionary of Mexico City (2000–2002). In 2005, he became the lead designer of the graphic and architectural identity of the Love Store sex shop chain in Mexico.

He gained wider recognition through his multidisciplinary project Pink Not Dead! (Garash Galeria, Mexico City / Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, Warsaw, 2006). He has published four photographic albums: Fúnebre (with Jeronimo Hagerman, Editorial Diamantina, 2006), W-wa (Bęc Zmiana Foundation, 2007), Minimal Fetish (Leto, 2010), and Dziary (Zachęta, 2018).

Eroticism and pornography often serve as points of dialogue in his work. Notable examples include the mural Fertility Pop (Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw, 2008) and the collage series Pussy Mandala (2008–2009). Vivid color - explored both for its vital energy and its socio-cultural dimensions-is a defining feature of his artistic language.

He has created numerous public space installations and objects, including:
Światłotrysk (Warsaw, 2009),
Color Cube (Wrocław, 2010),
Obelisk (Poznań, 2010),
Widmo (Brussels, 2011),
