More information
From the beginning of 1970s, Natalia Lach-Lachowicz, together with Andrzej Lachowicz, carried out photographic work representing the programme of permanent art. In his study entitled ”Polish Art of the 70s. Avant-garde”, Łukasz Ronduda explains that: ‘That was a variety of conceptual art - similarly as in the case of conceptualism, artistic production originated between the material context of work and the perceiving viewer’s mind.’ Her work entitled “Natural Surroundings – 250 Meters of Road”, which was created in 1971, is among the most important works of this movement. While travelling on a motorway, every kilometre the artist took a photo through the car windscreen. She did that with a view to the spectator’s activity. ‘In this way she showed the process of fragmented recording at equal time intervals, encouraging the recipients to find the answer to what happened before, between and after, so that they could experience in their imagination the concept of continuity and infinity of reality’ (in: Łukasz Ronduda “Polish Art of the 70s. Avant-garde”, Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, 2019).
