More information
Maria Pinińska-Bereś became an independent performance artist in 1976. Initially, she only performed for small audiences or in front of a camera. She treated performance art as a challenge. Her pieces were elements of a work constructed in the space of nature or a gallery. In that way, she expressed the need of showing a process, movement, change, layering of the meaning of her project, of its performative, played structure. The atmosphere of those special works was intimate and, frequently – as in the case of List-Latawiec (Letter-kite) from 1976, in which the artist placed the ‘I am sorry that I have been, that I am’ text on a pink tail – autobiographical, just like her sculptures which referred to the condition of woman in the contemporary world (As cited in: Dominik Kuryłek, imnk.pl.)
