DESA Unicum is the largest and one of the oldest auction houses in Poland. For years, we have been the unquestionable leader on the Polish art market.
In 2018 DESA Unicum has:
- offered 6190 objects in auctions
- hosted 70 auctions
- reached 115,5 million zlotys in sales
All of this means that DESA Unicum owns 45,8% of the Polish art market, which is more than twice as much as sales ranking’s runner-up.*
It was at DESA Unicum that the record sale on Poland’s contemporary art auction market took place: Roman Opałka’s ‘counted’ painting sold for 2,015,500 PLN. This year, DESA Unicum recorded the highest ever selling price on the Polish art market: The Killing of Wapowski by Jan Matejko sold for 3,683,000 PLN. No other artwork has sold for more in the history of the Polish auction market.
A Pioneer among Polish Auction Houses
Each year we organise a few dozens of auctions, in which we offer Old Master and 19th Century paintings, Modern and Contemporary Art, as well as various artefacts. We are at the forefront of many of these fields
DESA Unicum was the first auction house to auction the works of Young Polish Artists, as well as the first to auction Comic Art and Illustrations, private collections and works by a single artist. We show a wide range of exhibitions, which give us a chance to introduce our audience to interesting oeuvres and artistic phenomena. We are best known for auctioning post-war art, whose sales constitute a real treat for collectors and score more and more records on the Polish art market.
We respond to the needs and interests of our customers. We provide assistance with building and documenting collections, insuring works of art and their renovation and conservation. We prepare valuations and outsource authenticity and condition reports from experts. We are the only auction house to team up with Polish banks in the art banking field.
DESA Unicum’s Values
What we value most are trustworthiness, customer satisfaction and team work. Our long-standing experience and a team of experts in art history and the art market have allowed us to become the leader on the Polish art market.
We are eager to co-host charity events, assisting with the acquisition of artworks for auctions, preparing catalogues and marketing. Among the institutions that have relied on our expertise in that field there are the National Museum in Warsaw, The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, the Warsaw Stock Exchange and Forbes Magazine. DESA Unicum is the owner of DESA Modern, which sells limited editions of artists’ works, including art prints. We also own Rea Art Logistics and co-own the Art Finance company. Finally, we own shares in DESA Jewellery, the Sopocki Auction House and the Artbookstore chain of museum bookstores.
