Observing the changes in the market in recent years, we can clearly see an increasing interest in sculpture - it is currently one of the fastest growing segments on the art market. Yesterday's auction: Modern and contemporary sculpture brought spectacular selling prices and a turnover of almost PLN 8.2 million!

The auction offer attracted collectors' attention with a selection of exceptional works, among which the iconic work by Auguste Rodin, "The Kiss", took the top spot. The work, intended to form part of the unfinished "Gate of Hell," ultimately functions as an autonomous work. It is worth mentioning that this work of one of the most important sculptors of all time appeared on the Polish auction market for the first time. The work sold for 1.7 million pln.

The auction included 5 works by Magdalena Abakanowicz - a world-renowned sculptor, one of the world's leading artists of the 20th century. The popularity of the artist's works is reflected in the prices obtained during the auction. Two years ago, at a DESA Unicum auction,her installation "Caminando" was sold for over 8 million pln, therefore setting a sales record for a work of art in Poland at the time.
One of the many works, a bronze, monumental and mysterious animal form "Mutant" was auctioned off for a considerable 2.5 million pln and it is currently the most expensive single Abakanowicz sculpture in history.

Nearly 650 thousand pln was paid for Memnesis, a work clearly inspired by classical sculpture - which is characteristic of Igor Mitoraj's style. The works of this world-class artist enter into a dialogue with ancient art and become its modernized interpretation.
