The Classics and Post-1945 Avant-Garde

About department

The post-war avant-garde in Poland featured many outstanding artists. However, the greatest success - especially in the international arena - was achieved by artists who went far beyond figurative art, often challenging the medium of painting. Non-representative art by such artists as Wojciech Fangor, Ryszard Winiarski, Edward Krasiński and Roman Opałka is of great interest to art lovers and collectors all over the world.

A painting by Tomasz Tatarczyk worth 200 thousand zlotys, which almost ended up in a garbage can or a work by Wojciech Fangor, which achieved a record price of 4.7 million zlotys, are two different auction stories of DESA Unicum. However, they both show that today the works of post-war artists are in demand by collectors.

The Classics of Post 1945 Avant-Garde is a regular auction which features the works of the most important post-war artists. Among the many leading artists there are: Jerzy Nowosielski, Henryk Stażewski, Julian Stańczak, Andrzej Wróblewski, Zdzisław Beksiński, Teresa Pągowska, Maria Jarema, Jan Tarasin, Jan Lebenstein, Edward Dwurnik, Erna Rosenstein, Stanisław Fijałkowski or Tadeusz Kantor.
