NoteAndrzej Pawlowski's photograph from 1967 – ‘...to shine for the earth’ comes from the ‘Genesis’ series – the only one created by the author using a photo camera. This was a 135 film camera with a wide-angle lens.
Initially, Pawlowski gave his series the title of ‘Hands’. He photographed his hands with the sky in the background. In 1977, he changed the name of the series to ‘Genesis’. He provided a selected quote from the Book of Genesis with each of the 31 photographs.
As Adam Sobota says, the artist wished to break through certain limitations of the avant-garde model of art, associating photographic scenes not so much with the act of creation by God himself, understood as an external force relative to some observer, but rather with the effort of a human striving to summon or imitate the holy power of creation.
